Want tax rebellion to stick? Dump the politicians. |
With the many tea party demonstrations going on here and around the country one might think that we will accomplish something in this impotent crusade to stop runaway taxation.
However, there is a huge difference between our "tea parties" and the original in Boston so many years ago.
At the time of the original tea party, a King who ruled the colonies taxed tea.
Today's ridiculous taxation is perpetrated by federal, state and local officials and legislators who don't care a whit about whether or not we like it. They feel as immune to our discontent as old King George did way back in the 1700s.
The fault today lies with the voter. Here in Goffstown, voter turnout last month was a
dismal and embarrassing 13%. And those who do vote continue to re-elect the same ones who got us into this mess with their overspending, and we barely voice complaints when they raise our taxes to pay the bills.
The real answer is to vote the incumbents out of office and elect new people who won't tax and spend us to death. And if the new elected officials don't perform, vote them out, too. It's disheartening to see the same faces in the same offices who can think of nothing but to take away our rights and tax us to death with no repercussions.
Throw the bums out.
