Two
different worlds
By IVAN BELIVEAU |
Some Goffstown residents work in two different worlds depending on whether they work for government (at the federal, state or local level) or the private sector.
The average federal government employee compensation (wages and benefits) is vastly higher than for private industry.
The above graph (Google for more details) shows the continuous spread between the Federal civilian and Private industry compensation as of 2008.
For a wealth of information on state and local government compensation and growth, go to
http://mhodges701.home.comcast.net/~mhodges701/state_local.htm and half way down the page look at the graph – “Earnings State & Local Government vs. Private Sector.” The data shows that there is a continuous and significant growth in local government. In fact, the whole page is very interesting with several “eye opening” charts.
It should come as no surprise that many government employees would fight to save these benefits.
It should also come as no surprise that other citizens would be concerned – they aren’t getting the benefits and they have to pay for them out of a diminishing salary – if they have a job at all.
I guess one possible answer to all this is: Let’s all work for the government!
Another possible answer is: Stop the growth in federal, state and local government…now!
I just thought that you had a “Right to Know” – R2K.
