Attend Your SAU Meetings!

The annual budget season in Goffstown is upon us.
The school budget is about 2/3rds of the cost of running Goffstown!
While citizens of Goffstown and the surrounding towns are receiving "pink slips" and foreclosure notices, in general, the town and school budgets are growing ever larger.
Yes, we voted for more and/or improved services from the schools and the town; however, those votes were made in a much better economy than we are now experiencing. I think it is somewhat like the neighbor who threw a big, fancy wedding for their older daughter - now their younger daughter is getting married and they must think twice about sticking their fiscal neck out in these hard times.
In order to see how the sausage is made, one might consider attending one or more of the following important public meetings on the upcoming SAU and school budgets:
-
Tuesday, October
13th, 7:00 PM is the SAU Board Meeting being held at the Dunbarton Elementary School. The SAU budget seldom gets any public attention and it is a significant portion of the entire education budget.
-
Thursday, October
15th, 7:00 PM in the Media Center at GHS will be a joint Goffstown School Board and Goffstown Budget Committee meeting where the Elementary School Principals will present their proposed budgets. The SAU will also present their proposed budget.
-
Monday, October
19th, 7:00 PM in the Media Center at GHS (this is the regularly scheduled Goffstown School Board Meeting night) will be a joint Goffstown School Board and Goffstown Budget Committee meeting where the proposed budgets of the Middle School and the High School will be presented by the building principals.
Latch onto a neighbor or friend and come check out the process.
