This has certainly turned out to be quite a winter
with plenty of ice causing dangerous road and roof conditions, but more than
enough snow to keep the skiers and snowmobilers happy as larks. However,
April will soon be here and those of us who love to fish will be
concentrating on getting rid of Cabin Fever.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is already implementing a cure
for Cabin Fever that many anglers will surely appreciate. Here is an
opportunity to get inspired to try some new angling adventures this spring
and summer. A series of evening seminars will be given by fishing experts at
the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department headquarters at 11 Hazen Drive,
Concord. All seminars fall on Wednesday night, begin at 7 p.m. and admission
is FREE. No pre-registration is required and you may attend any or all of
the five. The series includes the following:
1. March 5: Fly-fishing New Hampshire’s Upper Connecticut River for Trophy
Trout.
This seminar features registered New Hampshire fishing guide, Angus Boezeman.
Known as the guru of the Connecticut River, Boezman, with 25 years of
experience fishing this river, will share his insights on fly-fishing this
famous fishery.
2. March 12: Back-country Trout Fishing Adventures.
There are still wild places to camp and fish in New Hampshire. Registered
New Hampshire guide, Rick Estes, will help you get there and back. As a
guide in the White Mountains National Forest, Estes knows some great remote
trout ponds. You’ll find out what it takes to enjoy them the way they were
meant to be ---- wild!
3. March 19: Downriggers and Trolling.
Registered New Hampshire guides, Jason Parent and Travis Williams, will
share their knowledge of the equipment and techniques that catch landlocked
salmon all summer long.4. March 26:
Smallmouth Bass Fishing on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Registered New Hampshire fishing guide, Curt Golder, will give a guide’s
perspective. A guide on Lake Winnipesaukee for over 20 years, he’ll share
the skills for successful tactics for taking smallmouth bass all season
long. Whether you’re spin-fishing or fly-fishing, Golder shows you what,
when and how to use this gear.
5. April 2: Kayak Fishing for All.
Shawn Roche, of Mountain Road Trading Post North, in Northwood, N.H., will
get you ready to take on New Hampshire’s most scenic fisheries from a
convenient, portable craft.
What better way to prepare for the coming of the open-water fishing season
than to take advantage of these fine seminars at Fish and Game. This is
another example of the fine things that our Fish and Game Department provide
for the sportsmen and women of New Hampshire.
As March comes in, it is also the time to be
getting your fishing gear sorted out and ready for those great days on the
water ahead. |
