To
the Editor:
The tremendous efforts of the snowmobile clubs statewide should be commended for their stewardship of the environment and community
cooperation. Like boaters, motorcyclists, and birdwatchers, etc., it is the small, selfish minority who break the law, litter and trespass who spoil the fun for vast majority of respectful enthusiasts.
On Goffstown's March ballot there are two articles are presented addressing snowmobile access to portions of the rail trail.
Article 16 would allow snowmobile use along a short section of the trail near Tatro Drive to provide access to Shell station.
This article, with a minimum of impact, provides a gas stop and rail trail crossing for the very popular New Hampshire Snowmobile Corridor #11.
It clearly demonstrates Goffstown's cooperation with the snowmobilers.
Article 23 would allow snowmobile use from Danis Park Road to Goffstown Village. Although
that might bring revenue to businesses in the village and the Irving station, snowmobile traffic is not what the residents signed on to when the trail was proposed and burdens the entire town with additional enforcement and maintenance expenses.
As a long-time and active supporter of the Goffstown Rail Trail, I encourage you to vote YES on Article 16 because is in the spirit of cooperation with the greater snowmobile community, and I suggest you to vote NO on Article 23 because it is in direct conflict with the intent of the
Rail Trail.
