Goffstown woman
killed in crash
CANTERBURY, NH --
On Monday, 24-year-old Amy Walker, of Goffstown, was killed in a car crash on Interstate 93 on
Canterbury. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said an initial investigation showed that Walker was not wearing a seat belt, and speed may have been the cause.
They said it appears that Walker was driving too fast and wasn't able to make the turn off the ramp at exit 18 on the southbound side. The car went over the curb, hitting a guardrail and going down an embankment.
Early yesterday morning, the state police issued the following press release regarding the accident:
"On 08-20-07 at approximately 9:10 p.m. members of the New Hampshire State Police Troop-D Concord were advised of a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 93 southbound in Canterbury, New Hampshire.
Upon arrival, it was found that a 2000 BMW sedan exiting Interstate 93 southbound at exit 18 had entered the grass triangle between the exit 18 off ramp and on ramp, where the vehicle rolled three to four times, ejecting the lone vehicle occupant.
Due to the injuries suffered in the accident the driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was identified as Amy Walker, age 24, of Goffstown, N.H.
Initial investigation revealed that the vehicle exited the interstate at exit 18 and was unable to negotiate the left to right hand curve of the off ramp. The vehicle then went over the granite curbing and rolled, coming to rest over a guardrail down an embankment. Walker was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.
Emergency services was immediately summonsed to the scene to administer emergency medical aid to no avail. The New Hampshire State Police Troop-D was assisted at the scene by the Canterbury Police Department, Northfield Police Department, Canterbury Fire Department, Concord Fire Department, and the Office of the New Hampshire Medical Examiner. The lead investigator in this accident investigation is Trooper First Class C. Johnston of Troop-D Concord.
The initial cause of the accident is believed to be unreasonable speed pending standard toxicology results. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Trooper Johnston at 271-3636."
