Library accepts
$85,000 gift
GOFFSTOWN - Following a brief public hearing last
night, the board of trustees for the Goffstown Public
Library accepted a bequest of $85,074.17 from Patricia Stips.
A former Goffstown resident and teach at Manchester's
Memorial High School, Stips, in her will, donated most of
her $1.8 million estate to charitable causes throughout New
Hampshire. She died in 2005.
Library trustees said the donation was much larger than
normal. The board did not announce what it intended to
do with the money, instead choosing to let a strategic
planning committee identify possible uses.
"We'd...like to save it for some large project and not
piddle it away on little things here and there," Hank
Boyle, the acting chairman of the board last night, told the
N.H. Union Leader.
Among her many other donations was $34,029.62 Stips gave to
the Goffstown Fire Department for its ambulance
program. Selectmen held a public hearing on that gift
in August.
