Goffstown Flood Victims Receive New Home
|
GOFFSTOWN - A Goffstown family who lost their home to flooding received a new home this week, and although the house wasn't from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," the television show indirectly helped make it happen.
Just like at the site of the "Extreme Makeover" project in Manchester, a team of volunteers created a new home for a family who lost their home during a flood.
"We framed the inside and helped on the roof," said Chris Wattles of Somersworth Vocational School.
The Herod family will move into the modular house soon and said they had no idea they would be moving out of their relatives' home so soon.
"We never thought the house would be here," Kelly Herod said. "Not in a million years. Not in a million years."
"When it happened, we saw the home coming down the road," Gary Herod said. "It was unbelievable. We had no idea."
A twist of fate landed the modular home in the laps of the Herods. The house was originally meant for the Voisine family in Manchester. But when "Extreme Makeover" chose to build for the Voisines, the modular home became available.
"I'm just thrilled to be a part of it," said Michael Moloney of "Extreme Makeover." "To help give the family the home was such a treat for me."
The new house was placed on the same location as the old one. The Herods had to tear it down after the floods of 2007 and had been paying a mortgage on a home they weren't even living in.
"I can't believe this many people worked this hard to get us back in our home," Kelly Herod said.
