GOFFSTOWN
- One year ago today, local resident and former
Goffstown News and Weare Free Press columnist Bob Harris
opened a new chapter in his life when he joined the
Goffstown Residents Association as a regular weekly
columnist.
Since
November 10th, 2006, Mr. Harris' weekly column entitled
"Outdoors & Free" has appeared on this
website, and quickly established a base of loyal readers
from as far away as California.
Mr. Harris has lived in
Goffstown for 40 years with his wife Betty and son
Christopher. He has been a professional outdoors
columnist since 1962 (44 years), having started his
career in Derry, N.H., writing for the Derry Shoppers
World. His free-lance featured columns, articles
and photos have appeared in numerous local, state and
regional publications that include the Goffstown News,
Goffstown Spirit, The Weare Free Press and the Weare
Register to name but a few.
Mr. Harris has also covered subjects on boating,
canoeing, camping, environmental/conservation issues and
concerns (both state and national), wildlife issues and
profiles, sportsmen’s’ issues of local, state and
national concerns, hunting, shooting and fishing
subjects of fresh and saltwater fishing and fly-fishing.
He is a senior active member of several professional
writers groups that include the Outdoor Writers
Association of America (OWAA), New England Outdoor
Writers Association (NEOWA) and the Outdoor Writers
Forum. He is also a Life Benefactor member of the
National Rifle Association (NRA), New Hampshire Firearms
Coalition (NHFC), life member of the North American
Fishing Club and a member of Crappie Unlimited.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Harris served aboard the
aircraft carrier U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42)
and also at the Jacksonville, Florida Naval Air Station,
in Jacksonville, Florida.
