MANCHESTER
-
Faced with word that the
religious order running the Villa Augustina School in
Goffstown plans to close the school at the end of this
school year, parents are trying to come up with ways to
keep the doors open.
Sister Janet Stolba of
the Religious of Jesus and Mary told parents Wednesday
night that the order will stop financing and running the
school, which has been running at a loss for several
years.
Stolba said deficits
continue to grow and the school is faced with safety
code and education standard repairs that could cost more
than $5 million.
At the meeting, parents
floated several ideas about keeping the school open,
including a tuition hike, selling other religious
property or setting up a nonprofit corporation to own
and operate the school. Stolba said she would work with
parents on other options.
