WINDHAM
-
Police said the driver of a FedEx delivery truck was on the wrong side of the road when his truck collided nearly head-on with a school bus Wednesday afternoon.
Police Capt. Patrick Yatsevich said Dominic Mancino of Goffstown will be cited for a traffic violation. An investigation determined that Mancino's truck crossed over into the wrong lane and struck the oncoming bus, Yatsevich said. The crash occurred on Cristy Road while students from Windham Middle School were being dropped off after school.
No students were injured, but both drivers were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries. Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the crash and had to be towed from the scene. The 27 students on the bus were taken back to the school by a second bus, where they were picked up by their parents.
Mancino will be cited with one of three traffic violations, Yatsevich said, one of which could be negligent driving, which is punishable with a fine and a license suspension.
Thomas Murray of Londonderry, the driver of the Laidlaw school bus, was taken to Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was no longer a patient there yesterday, according to a hospital spokesman.
Mancino, who was taken to Southern New Hampshire Regional Medical Center in Nashua, was in stable condition there Wednesday night. No further information about him was available yesterday.
