School District
budget to be slightly lower in 2010-2011
Reduction of 0.5% is
a step in the right direction
GOFFSTOWN - On
Thursday night, the Goffstown Budget Committee, by a
vote of 11-3, reduced the school district budget by
$191,975 from the previous year for fiscal
2010-2011. The reduction comes at a time of lower
student enrollment, a struggling economy and
unemployment rates of over 10%.
In sharp contrast to last year's school budgeting
process, the committee's recommended budget was met with
little resistance and even less fanfare.
"This
slight reduction is a step in the right direction",
said committee member Bill Gordon.
In addition to an unexpected revenue windfall, the
school district also received grant money this year.
"It's
nice to see that everyone seems to working together this
year as opposed to last year," said committee
member Guy Caron. "This is the first time I
can remember that the school's recommended budget is
actually lower that the previous year. And they
didn't argue about it."
