Goffstown Marine killed in Afghanistan

GOFFSTOWN - A 2007 graduate of Goffstown High School has been killed in Afghanistan.

Marine Cpl. Philip Gerald Eichner Charte, 22, was a member of a Marine battalion based out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.  The U.S. Marine Corps said in a statement that he died while supporting combat operations in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan.  It was not immediately known when he was killed.

Charte was part of Goffstown High School's state championship wrestling team in 2006, helping the Grizzlies win the Division II state title in 2006. Charte won the 135-pound weight division in that championship contest.

He was not married.
