Local man charged with arson, assault

GOFFSTOWN - A Goffstown man has been charged with arson, second-degree assault, reckless conduct and two counts of simple assault after setting fire to the bed in which his live-in girlfriend was sleeping.

Bill Lavalliere, 42, of 5 Pine Grove Ave., was arrested Saturday night and was being held on $10,000 cash bail pending arraignment Monday in Goffstown District Court.

According Kerry P. Steckowych, police prosecuting attorney, the heat from the fire woke up Sandra Lavalliere who pulled off the bed covers and threw them onto the kitchen floor to extinguish the flames.

Sandra Lavalliere is the widow of Lavalliere's brother. She was talking to her son that night when Mr. Lavalliere grabbed her by the shirt and tried to pull her out of the room.

Sandra Lavalliere's 21-year-old son tried to stop him and Mr. Lavalliere allegedly knocked him to the floor and punched him, cutting his face.

Steckowych said Lavalliere was released Tuesday from the Valley Street jail in Manchester after serving a sentence for previously assaulting Sandra Lavalliere.
