School tax rate to be lower than expected

GOFFSTOWN -
School officials say the anticipated school portion of the tax rate could decrease by as much as 50 cents per $1,000 in property value, in stark contrast to the 59 cent increase school officials said was possible if state aid had remained at 2006-07 levels.

The district said it was receiving $6,463,633 in state aid.  The amount is $1,404,696 more than what the district got last year.

"The impact of this increase in state aid will result in a significant decrease in the school tax rate and will help ease the tax burden for Goffstown taxpayers," said school board Chairman Keith Allard.

Officials said it was too early to say what the exact school tax rate would be.
