Selectmen
hire new fire chief
June 6, 2007
GOFFSTOWN - Richard O'Brien has been hired as Goffstown Fire Chief,
effective July 2nd.
O'Brien, a 16-year resident
of Goffstown, has served the past three years as Fire
Chief in Rye.
Goffstown officially has been without a fire chief since
the end of 2006, when Frank Carpentino retired.
Deputy Fire Chief Mark Hurley has served as acting chief
in the interim.
In late 2005, Goffstown's
former selectmen eliminated Carpentino’s position and
attempted to merge the town’s fire, police and EMS departments into one public safety
department, all without voter approval. Carpentino
took the matter to court, and residents overwhelmingly
voted to re-instate Carpentino after the Hillsborough
County Superior Court ruled that selectmen could not
remove Carpentino without voter approval.
While serving as
Goffstown's Fire Chief, Carpentino's salary was set at
$74,000. According to Town Administrator Sue
Desruisseaux, O’Brien will be paid $80,322 a year.
O'Brien will be sworn in July 2, 5 p.m., at the
Pinardville Fire Station on Mast Road. The public
is invited to a meet and greet session with O'Brien
immediately following the swearing-in ceremony.
