Local residents
establishing Goffstown Water Rights Study Committee
GOFFSTOWN - Local residents Barbara Barbour and
Mary Till are organizing a committee to meet over the summer
and fall to investigate how Goffstown can best retain control of its
water resources, both above and below ground, and prevent
Goffstown's water from slipping into private corporate control for shipment out of the area.
Although there is no immediate threat to Goffstown's water rights,
Barbour and Till believe that it will be easier and considerably
less expensive to put requirements in place before there is a petitioner,
rather than after one comes forward.
Other New Hampshire towns such as Nashua, Nottingham, and Barrington are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars
trying to protect their water supply.
The committee will meet monthly from July through November and then
present a report and recommendation to the Board of Selectman and other
impacted Town Officials.
Anyone interested in serving on this committee may contact
by Barbour and Till via email at nhpowr@yahoo.com or
by calling (603) 647-7217.
