GOFFSTOWN
- Local
residents Mary Till and Barbara Barbour have formed the
Committee on Goffstown Water Rights, a seven-member
panel authorized as a new town committee, to investigate
ways that Goffstown might protect its drinking water
rights from outside corporate control.
Till, in an interview with the New Hampshire
Union Leader, said a company that may try to buy or use
water resources in Goffstown could drive up the prices
for local customers and make water contamination more
likely and harder to prevent.
In the fall, the committee, which includes
representatives from the planning board and the Grasmere
Water Precinct, will provide selectmen with
recommendations on how Goffstown might protect its water
resources.
Till and Barbour have also independently launched a
related web site, NH Preserve Our Water Rights (NHPOWR)
located at http://www.nhpowr.com.
The focus of the site is to help inform the public on
water rights issues.
The Committee on Goffstown Water Rights will be holding
its first meeting on Thursday, July 19th at 7:00 PM at
St, Matthew's Episcopal Church. The public is
invited to attend.
