Wheeler Knew of Stipulations
Selectman ignores original
intent, conditions and stipulations of State, HUD and Voters
READ THE 1972 LETTER TO WHEELER
GOFFSTOWN, NH - The GRA is currently investigating the involvement of selectman Robert Wheeler in the recent transfer of 26 acres of the land by the Board of Selectmen to the school district, as well as his involvement in the original purchase of that land.
Wheeler, who voted 'Yes' on the transfer, was a selectmen in 1972 when he contacted the Water Resources Board to inquire about purchasing Map 5, Lot 14 for the Town for "recreation and conservation purposes", and again in 1977 when HUD funds were used to purchase the land from the state Water Resources Board. As such, Wheeler is well aware of the stipulations of the original purchase, the intent of the state when it sold the land to the town, the intent and stipulations of HUD when it provided the funds for the purchase, the intent of the voters who approved the original purchase, and the inaccuracy of the wording of the subsequently drafted deed.
Despite having knowledge of the above, Wheeler approved the transfer nevertheless.
Are Wheeler's actions an attempt to deflect attention away from an alternate site proposed by many residents, the DPW Site located at Map 5, Lot 24? Although numerous inquiries over the last year have been made as to the potential of that site as a fiscally and practically superior location for our kindergarten, Wheeler and the rest of the Board of Selectmen have yet to answer questions as to why it has not been considered and what future plans the board has for that parcel. Is there some hidden agenda for that parcel that residents, voters and taxpayers are being kept in the dark about? We've all certainly seen Wheeler run Goffstown any way he pleases for years, regardless of the will of the voters...
